KNOW: Who is God?

As members of the Grace Church Leith community, our first goal is to know God: to believe in who He is and what He has done. We do this by constantly seeking to study, understand, and apply the gospel. We encourage each other to ask questions, voice doubts, engage with the Bible, and seek God in prayer. We do this primarily through regular, scheduled times of studying God’s Word together as a gospel community and regular times of worshipping Him together through singing and prayer.

LIVE: Who are we?

Because of who God is and what He has done for us in the gospel, we are a changed people. We are not individuals living for ourselves, but rather we are a community, living for God and for others. Our community is gospel-centred and people-centred, and we seek to live out the grace we’ve been shown as we love each other and the larger community around us. We strive to be transparent and honest with one another, refusing to let our relationships remain superficial, and letting every aspect of our individual and communal lives be transformed by the gospel. Our shared relationship with Jesus means that we share our lives with each other, not just a common belief.

We do this primarily through spending time with each other—scheduled and unscheduled, meeting one-to-one and in larger groups. It can look like anything from sharing a meal to sharing a walk to work, meeting for a play date, or helping put up a shelf or paint a room. We are intentional about leaving room in our schedule for spontaneity--for last minute get-togethers and chances to show hospitality. It means we share in hard times as well as good ones, seeking to reflect the grace Christ has shown us. And ultimately, it impacts the way we make decisions as individuals, families, and a community, because we recognise that we are one body in Christ, and we want to benefit the body as a whole.

serve: how should we live?

Because we are a community changed by God’s grace to us in Jesus, we don’t live for ourselves anymore. Our community exists to love and serve God and our city. We seek to effectively engage with the culture, and be fully involved in the life of Leith, as far as possible while still honouring Jesus. We do this because we want the same grace that we have received to be poured out on our city. We love Leith, and we seek to proclaim God’s gospel of hope through the words we say and the way we live, so that its people can have a new and living relationship with Him. We want to identify our individual and collective gifts and use them for Leith’s benefit. This means, as much as possible, we work, volunteer, serve, build, and live our lives in Leith.
